Ducks and Geese

Geese and Ducks

Hi, I’m Liora.

I’ve been learning a lot about ducks and geese, and I wanted to share what I learned with you. Did you know that geese hardly ever eat bugs? They mainly eat grass and weeds, but they sometimes eat worms that are lying around.

Geese at Heritage Grove

Their very protective over the nest and their goslings, and if you have six geese and you touch one gosling they all come after you.

Now ducks are different they do like bugs, and they don’t like much grass. If you start to give them small worms when they’re less than a week old they’ll love them when they grow up. Drakes are more protective over their mates than they are the nest.

Khaki and Magpie Ducks at Heritage GroveHand raised ducks and geese are very friendly, some geese grow up to love you. Boy ducks are called drakes, and boy geese are called ganders, and did you know that a flock of geese is called a gaggle of geese?

Drakes choose their own mates. If you choose a duck to go with your drake he may have chosen another duck already.

I hope you enjoyed that!
