Some Different duck breeds:

  • Khaki Campbell ducklings are often mistaken for Runners because of how tall they are, but as ducks they grow they even out whereas Runners remain tall. Nearing maturity, the drakes sprout tiny green feathers on their heads, while the females remain brown with extraordinary diamond patterns on their backs and wings. Khaki Campbells lay beautiful white eggs that are especially good for baking.
  • White Layers are medium sized, solid white ducks with yellow legs and bills. Sometimes mistaken for Pekins, White Layers are lightweight whereas Pekins are generally more heavyset. Hence their name, they are excellent egg layers, the shells of which are slightly blue tinted.
  • Mallards are small, somewhat shy, docile ducks that keep mostly to themselves. They are highly active, and have a great tendency for flying, unlike most domesticated breeds which prefer to stay on the ground. Despite the Mallard’s small size, their eggs are actually no smaller than any other duck eggs. The ducklings, and sometimes even mature Mallards are mistaken for Rouens, but Mallards are one of the smallest breeds and Rouens are not.
